Mathew Kelly, author/lecturer Consider these apparently disparate events: -On September 11, 2001, three pilots steered their hijacked commercial aircraft, full of passengers, into the WTC and the Pentagon. A fourth commercial aircraft, which was headed for Washington, D.C., crashed in Pennsylvania. A fifth pilot, Zacharias Moussaoui, was arrested before he could hijack another commercial aircraft to be used in the plot. -On December 9, 2001, Yazid Sufaat, a former Malaysian Army Captain, was arrested and detained in Malaysia while trying to enter the country from Afghanistan where he had operated an Al Qaeda biological weapons facility. It was discovered that Yazid had provided Zacharias Moussaoui with $30,000 and Moussaoui's US Visa indicated that Moussaoui was Yazid's employee. Intelligence reports allege that Yazid had been tasked by the man who had plotted the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, with recruiting four Malaysian commercial airline pilots who would be willing to fly their aircraft into US Warships in the Straits of Malacca. -2008 - Yazid is released from detention and joins the Malaysian Islamic fundamentalist opposition political party, PAS. Yazid supports Anwar Ibrahim, the PAS political leader, but believes that the Malaysian government, itself, is corrupt and that the political system of democracy is un-Islamic. -2009- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak creates a Malaysian government investment fund, 1MDB fund, which was reportedly defrauded of billions of dollars by operatives linked to the Najib. -March 7, 2014, PAS political leader, Anwar Ibrahim, is convicted of sodomy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Anwar has been a fierce critic of the corrupt government of Prime Minister Najib Razak and outside observers, as well as the UN, conclude that the charges against Anwar were politically motivated. March 7, 2014, PAS political party member, Zawaharie Ahmed Shaw, who was present in the courtroom for the Anwar verdict, departed the courtroom and posted a photo of himself on Facebook wearing a T-shirt stating "Democracy is Dead". Zawaharie then changed into his Malaysian Airlines Captain's uniform and drove to Kuala Lumpur Airport. He departed as Captain of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 that night. An hour into the flight, the aircraft inexplicably reversed course, flew back across Malaysia, turned a hard right and flew the length of the Straits of Malacca. I have twenty years of experience as a criminal investigator and as I began to research the above information, I found that these events may, in fact, be interconnected. From my research, only one thing is certain, any threat assessment of commercial aircraft being used as terrorist weapons must take into account all of the above information and more. It is a complex world and many of the topics I touch on in this book are sensitive social topics. I seek to offend no one, but at the same time, I seek to protect no one's feelings. These are serious life and death issues and the flying public has a paramount right to know everything that can be explained about these events. Was Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 used by the pilot, Zawaharie Ahmed Shaw, as a show of political defiance against the Malaysian Government? Was it a terrorist incident? Was Zawaharie inspired, influenced, or even recruited by Yazid Sufaat? Does Al Qaeda and ISIS continue to recruit commercial pilots for suicide missions? To pose these question intelligently requires a wealth of background information. I invite you to read this book skeptically and to answer the questions for yourself.
